Reading Round-Up Connects First-years with Faculty

Welcome to an event that gives incoming first-year students a head start on exploring what The University of Texas at Austin is all about: a place where ideas abound, inquiry is encouraged, and discoveries—both large and small—happen every day. 2011 was the eighth annual Reading Round-Up.

Members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers, Signature Course faculty, and other outstanding faculty recommend stimulating books for summer reading and schedule times to discuss the books with intimate groups of incoming first-year students the day before fall classes start.

This year, a record number of students signed up for sessions. Book selections ranged from Jon Steel’s Perfect Pitch, recommended by Advertising professor Jon Murphy, to C.S. Lewis’s Screwtape Letters, chosen by Music professor Lorenzo Candelaria. Check out the full list of books on the UT Library site.

Austin art and design studio Rural Rooster designed the posters and t-shirts for the event.
