Undergraduate College recently honored outstanding educators with its prestigious Signature Course Awards. These awards, which include the Iverson Award for Innovation, Holleran Steiker Award for Creative Student Engagement, and the Signature Course Outstanding Campus Partner for Academic Enrichment, are presented annually to recognize innovative and empathetic teaching methods that have significantly impacted students’ learning experiences.
 
Dr. Emmett Campos and Dr. Victor Saenz, both from the College of Education, received this year’s Iverson Award for Innovation, which was designed to recognize and celebrate Signature Course faculty members who innovate new ways of teaching and push the boundaries of pedagogy and topics. Campos and Saenz were recognized for their course “Latinx Males in K-12 and Higher Education.”

This year’s Holleran Steiker Award for Creative Student Engagement was awarded to Kirk Lynn, College of Fine Arts, for his course “Playing and Writing.” This award celebrates a Signature Course professor whose teaching creatively engages students in learning. The recipient of this award is, by definition, innovative, imaginative, challenging, and inspirational.
 
 

A new award this year, the Signature Course Outstanding Campus Partner for Academic Enrichment, was presented to Siobhan McCusker, Blanton Museum of Art, for working closely with Signature Course staff and faculty to develop programming, provide student support, and enrich the Signature Course experience.
