Effective academic advising is an essential component of student success. Academic advisors provide holistic support for students at The University of Texas at Austin from orientation through graduation and beyond. The Vick Advising Excellence Center is committed to supporting academic advisors across campus by providing training, tools, and resources to empower advisors to provide the highest levels of support to their students.
The Vick Center seeks to develop campus-wide advisor training and professional development opportunities, explore innovative advising tools and technology, gather data to support advising needs, and research and share best advising practices. The Vick Center also serves as a conduit between the advising community and university leadership to elevate issues and champion ideas for the betterment of advisors and their students.
As we endeavor to elevate the advising profession on campus, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with your ideas, concerns, and questions. You can reach us via email at advisingexcellence@utexas.edu.

Celebrating Excellence in Advising
The Texas Exes James W. Vick Award for Academic Advising was created in 1992 and recognizes individuals who improve students’ overall experience at The University of Texas at Austin through outstanding advising. Each year, new recipients are honored at an awards celebration and awarded $500. Students nominate academic advisors from across campus and a student selection committee determines the recipients.
