Student Parent Organization at the University of Texas at Austin is working with UT Outpost to host their first ever diaper, wipes, and baby formula drive. Our goals is to supply UT Outpost with 100 boxes of diapers for student parents. The development of a convenient, on-campus diaper bank will benefit student parent with the littlest Longhorns.
Meeting Student Parents’ Needs
It is estimated that diapers and wipes can cost as much as $120/month for a family with one child. Formula is even more expensive – ranging from $100-400 each month per child. These costs add up, potentially tagging on an extra $6,200 each year per child – just to meet the most basic needs. This number increases exponentially when childcare, clothing, and additional living expenses are considered.
Over 50% of UT’s undergraduate student parent population are Pell Grant recipients – meaning they qualify for federal financial aid based on their income. Across all aspects of higher education, student parents need more support. This diaper bank is a definitive way for the UT community to embrace, celebrate, and uplift students with children.
Items to Donate
UT Outpost will collect and make available the following items:
- Diapers, all sizes (new and opened packs)
- Wipes (new packs)
- Baby formula (new packs)
- Monetary donations (Designate funds for Diaper Drive in the Gifts Comment box)
Drop-Off Locations
UT Outpost, located at 2609 University Ave., will accept donations during their regularly scheduled hours, Tuesday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m., Wednesday: 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., Thursday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m., and Friday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.. Donation bins will also be available in the following buildings on campus throughout the week of October 24-28:
- McCombs – 2nd floor, border of GSB and and CBA, near the front entrance just as you come inside the GSB 2.100 corridor
- Moody – 4th floor at the glass crosswalk between CMA/CMB near the doors to the Moody bridge
- Pharmacy (PHR) – Inside the Learning Resource space in PHR 3.114
- Law School – Bin location TBD
- Flawn Academic Center (FAC) – 1st floor near the West Mall entrance
- Sanchez Building (SZB) – Bin location TBD
- Engineering Education and Research Center (EER) – 2nd floor along the glass half-wall in the atrium, across from the Lactation/Quiet room (EER 2.856)
- Main Building (MAI) – Ground floor of the building near the main elevators
- Nursing Building (NUR) – Main lobby toward interior courtyard
