Texas Success Initiative
The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-legislated program designed to improve student success in college. There are two components of the program.
- An assessment to diagnose students’ basic skills in reading, mathematics, and writing
- Developmental instruction to strengthen academic skills that need improvement
Our Texas Success Initiative program only serves incoming and current students at The University of Texas at Austin. While the Texas Success Initiative is a statewide program, our office can only address the needs of incoming or current students at UT Austin. For TSI questions related to another institution, please contact that institution directly.
Read a peer-reviewed article from TSI Program Coordinator Hillary Procknow called “Corequisite Courses for Developmental Students at a Large Research University.”
Spring 2022 update: The TSI office is committed to helping incoming students fulfill their requirements. Online TSI testing is now available for admitted UT students. You should make online testing arrangements soon, as spots fill quickly. Check the Start Here page to test online or for information on sending scores.
TSI and Admission to the University
TSI status does not affect your admission to UT Austin. Our office only works with students once they have been offered admission to the university.
TSI Faculty Advisory Committee
The TSI program gratefully acknowledges the support and direction of our Faculty Advisory Committee. These faculty members assist TSI in creating policies and procedures to ensure our students’ success.
