Children & Society student Nicole Griffin spent the summer of 2017 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania working with Ubongo, a local NGO that creates educational TV programming for children in Sub-Saharan Africa. This experience helped her integrate her child development knowledge with her BDP strand focus of Children, Media, and the Arts.]
Museum Studies BDP student Mallory Miller interned at The Alamo historic site where she transcribed and translated correspondence between Mexican military officials. She learned about many aspects of preserving and managing historic sites and collections.
As an intern with Oceans Research in Mossel Bay, South Africa, Maria Iuliano assisted with a number of research projects, including a study of White Sharks. Maria, a Marine Science major completing a BDP in Environment & Sustainability, collected and organized data identifying individual sharks for a population study.
Maya Patel, a Chemistry major completing a BDP in Public Policy, spent the summer in Washington, D.C. as an environmental and policy intern at the Center for American Progress. There she learned a great deal about the day-to-day world of policy making and reflected on her next steps after UT.
Human Rights & Social Justice BDP student Adriel Morgan, who is majoring in Management, interned with the Governor’s Fellowship Program on the Governor’s Child Sex Trafficking team. As an intern, she worked on increasing public awareness of the team’s efforts, trainings and other projects to improve anti-trafficking efforts in the state of Texas.
Hannah Evans researched play therapy environments for children affected by trauma and implementation strategies for non-profit organizations curating a play therapy room. This research drew on her Youth and Community Studies major background and highlighted the Youth and Family strand focus of her Social Entrepreneurship & Non-Profit BDP.]
I am earning a PharmD at the University of Texas at Austin. This is a coordinated program in the College of Pharmacy, so I will graduate in May 2019.

Maheen Shakil, who is pursuing a BDP in Social Inequality, Health & Policy, spent the summer of 2017 in New York at the NYU Center for Health, Identity, Behavior, and Prevention Studies, where she assisted in HIV research. This experience opened her eyes to interacting with research participants—not just data—and reignited her passion for research work.
During his internship with Urban Mining Company, Jacob Hethcock drew on his engineering knowledge to uncover removal and recycling methods for the environmentally focused startup. The Mechanical Engineering major, who is completing a BDP in Innovation, Creativity & Entrepreneurship, also honed his professional communication skills and discovered a desire to incorporate altruism into his future career.
