"UT has a surprising number of resources ready and waiting to help you succeed - you just have to utilize them."

What has been the most rewarding part about working at the Sanger Center?
I love that I’ve had the ability to work with students that are motivated and genuine. The PLUS facilitators I’ve worked with are both of these, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know them and helping them be their best academically.

What has been the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your job?
I’ve been surprised that I’ve been given so much independence. The PLUS program has largely been what I’ve made of it. That freedom, while intimidating at first, has allowed me to make this experience a rewarding one.

Tell me about a time you worked with a student and were particularly proud of the outcome.
Every time I go into our weekly meeting with facilitators and the professor, I’m pleasantly surprised at the initiative the facilitators take. They truly embrace the idea that academic success falls on your own shoulders and they are making the most of the resources available to them.

What advice would you give to incoming students about being academically successful at UT?
Reach out! Academic success rests on you, and motivation is half the battle. UT has a surprising number of resources ready and waiting to help you succeed – you just have to utilize them.
