Undergraduate Studies Welcomes Class of 2017

UGS Student at Gone to UGSThe School of Undergraduate Studies welcomes new students to campus with two exciting events on Tuesday, August 27: Gone to Undergraduate Studies and the Freshman Reading Round-Up.

Freshman Reading Round-Up

Tuesday morning, over 900 new Longhorns will mingle on the lawn between Parlin and Calhoun and enjoy breakfast before breaking up into small book clubs led by top university faculty.

Each summer, faculty select books for summer reading, and incoming freshmen register for sessions featuring their favorite books. View the 68 faculty-recommended books from this year’s Round-Up.

This is the 11th year that students connected with distinguished professors and experienced what UT is all about before classes begin. Learn more about the Freshman Reading Round-Up.

Gone to Undergraduate Studies

Later that same evening, over 1,100 new Undergraduate Studies students are invited to enjoy food, meet new friends, and hear from the dean of Undergraduate Studies, Brent Iverson, at the annual Gone to UGS. Afterwards, students will proceed to the university-wide Gone to Texas event at the tower.

Together, these kick-off events introduce new students to the campus community and illustrate what it means to be a Longhorn.
