Transfer Year Experience Awarded Grant for Summits

The Greater Texas Foundation has announced a new $21,966 grant to support the 2020 and 2021 Transfer Student Leadership Summits. Hosted by the Transfer-Year Experience (TYE) program in the School of Undergraduate Studies, the summit convenes students, staff, and faculty from colleges and universities around Texas to tackle the challenges associated with being a transfer student. TYE established the summit in 2017 to provide a platform for students to share best practices, identify common themes in the transfer experience, and develop plans to implement new ideas on their home campuses. In its first two years, the summit brought together over 100 students from a dozen institutions from across the state.

“The generous support by the Greater Texas Foundation will reduce financial barriers for attendees, allowing participation by a greater number and diversity of colleges and universities from every corner of the state,” said Jeffrey Mayo, Assistant Director of the First-Year Experience Office. Mayo says that funding will also extend the length of the conference, allowing for deeper engagement with the programs and policies that improve the transfer student experience in Texas.

The 2020 Transfer Student Leadership Summit will be held on March 6 and 7 on the University of Texas at Austin campus.
