UGS Council Representative Wins Senate Award

Ishi Tripathi

Ishi Tripathi, a first-year School of Undergraduate Studies (UGS) student, was named the 2018-19 Senate Representative of the Year during the Senate of College Councils awards and recognition meeting.

The Vice President of Senate, Elena Ivanova, said that Tripathi earned the award because of her dedication to Senate, inquisitive nature, and acute attention to detail. Additionally, Tripathi worked with Senate to pass legislation affecting Canvas grade transparency. The legislation encourages all professors using Canvas to input and weight grades so students can more accurately gauge their status in a particular course. This was the first time UGS Council has passed legislation in Senate.

“Making the adjustment to college as an undeclared student can be full of uncertainty and doubt. This year, I owned my undeclared status and enjoyed representing undeclared students in Senate meetings. In those meetings I found I could have an impact on students in a real way,” said Tripathi.
