On Thursday, Oct. 5, former School of Undergraduate Studies students gave advice to undeclared students currently exploring majors at UT Austin. The UGS Liaisons, students who started in UGS and have now transferred into their major, spoke about the internal transfer process for their colleges, how they went about making a decision, and the resources they used along the way.
The students on the panel, Courtney Austin (computational biology), Mustapha Jolaade (petroleum engineering), Ansel Lowry (theatre and dance), Susie Presley (social work), Stephanie Sebo (public relations/corporate communication), and Tasha Torres (accounting), shared their experiences and the chance for current UGS students to find out about majors across campus. Vick Center advisor Angela Rabe and career counselor Sasha Spear were also on hand to answer questions about internal transfer requirements and translating majors into careers.
The liaisons encouraged attendees to get involved, stay persistent, use the many resources available on campus, and have a backup plan.
The next UGS Liaison panel is Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 6-7 p.m. in CLA 1.106. Students on the panel will include liaisons from the College of Fine Arts, College of Liberal Arts, School of Social Work, Cockrell School of Engineering, and Moody College of Communication.
