Photos: Undergraduate Studies Welcomes Students to Campus

The School of Undergraduate Studies hosted several events to welcome students to The University of Texas at Austin for the 2017-2018 school year.

On Monday, August 28, 65 first-year UGS students participated in the UGS Leadership Summit. The all-day workshop featured panels, activities, and speeches aimed at giving students an early opportunity to practice leadership and meet their fellow UGS classmates. The Transfer Year Experience Program and the Texas Transfer Students organization welcomed transfers back to campus on Monday with food, crafts, and games.

UGS hosted Freshman Reading Round-Up and Gone to UGS on Tuesday, August 29. In its fifteenth year, the Reading Round-Up brought together first-year students and prestigious faculty members the day before classes began. 58 faculty members selected a wide range of books to discuss in small groups on Tuesday morning. Participants read a great book over the summer, met an outstanding UT professor, and got acquainted with their like-minded first-year peers. On Tuesday evening, Gone to UGS celebrated the arrival of the class of 2021 on the Forty Acres. Students enjoyed barbecue, visited with staff and advisors from UGS programs, sang “The Eyes of Texas,” and posed for a class photo.
