Undergraduate Studies Welcomes Class of 2018

UGS FreshmenThe School of Undergraduate Studies will celebrate the beginning of the school year and welcome new students to campus with two events on Tuesday, August 26: Freshman Reading Round-Up and Gone to Undergraduate Studies.

Freshman Reading Round-Up

Over 1,000 first-year students will gather on the south mall to meet other new students and eat breakfast before breaking into small groups to discuss the books they read over the summer. Students chose from over 50 books hand-picked by top faculty from many disciplines across campus, including members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers and the Society for Teaching Excellence.

Freshman Reading Round-Up has been connecting incoming students with both distinguished faculty members and fellow freshmen through summer reading since 2003.

Gone to Undergraduate Studies

Later that same evening, incoming Undergraduate Studies students are invited to Gone to Undergraduate Studies to celebrate the start of the school year and their arrival on campus. The newly minted Longhorns will meet on the east side of the Flawn Academic Center at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy free barbecue and mingle with other first-year students, as well as Dean Brent Iverson, before taking a class of 2018 photo. The group will then walk over to the main mall for the university-wide Gone to Texas festivities.

Students can RSVP for Gone to Undergraduate Studies here.
