Thanksgiving may be just around the corner, but the Undergraduate Studies Council (UGSC) has embraced the spirit of giving all semester. Council members have participated in multiple donation drives this fall, benefiting different communities in need throughout Texas.
Six undergraduate researchers were recognized for their research projects and communication skills at the Texas Student Research Showdown on Nov. 15, 2017. A live audience, including a panel of faculty and student judges, heard six-minute presentations on topics including oil and gas well drilling, the secondhand clothing industry in Uganda, and the perception of those who stutter. The six finalists qualified for the event with creative, attention-grabbing videos that were voted on by the student body.

As we celebrate fifteen years of the BDPs, we take this moment to look back and remember how the programs began and how much has changed. Since they were launched in 2002, the Bridging Disciplines Programs have grown in so many ways, while still remaining true to the initial ideals set forth by then-Provost Sheldon Ekland-Olson and Vice Provost Lucia Gilbert.
Wayfinder is a tool for major and career exploration that helps prospective & current Longhorns research degree options. The site has been redesigned to better align with the University of Texas website and to include new content. Students can now access information on UT minors, research campus resources for experiential learning opportunities, and watch short videos that highlight current UT student and alumni experiences. The new Wayfinder will also feature information specifically for Longhorn parents.
The School of Undergraduate Studies hosted several events to welcome students to The University of Texas at Austin for the 2017-2018 school year.
