What substantial writing projects will your students complete during the course?

Students will write a comprehensive biopsychosocial case assessment and intervention plan based on one client they are working with in their internship. This paper will require the application of academic material in a professionally prepared case assessment format. This paper is approximately eight pages in length. The student submits a draft and received feedback from the instructor and two peers before submitting the final version. In addition, the student writes five journals over the semester, each approximately three pages long, and participated in discussion boards ten times over the semester. They have an additional essay assignment to demonstrate their case documentation skills and another essay to write on ethical issues in social work practice. All together, the students write approximately 35 pages over the semester.

What kinds of feedback will students receive from the instructor, and what opportunities will they have to read and comment on each other’s work? How often and how extensively will they revise their own writing?

Each student will receive extensive feedback on the case assessment paper from the instructor. In addition, each paper will be reviewed by two peers, and each student is responsible for reviewing two different papers. Should a student still have difficulty on the final paper, the instructor would allow the student to rewrite the paper after receiving additional feedback from the instructor and/or TA. Extensive feedback is given on the ethics paper and the documentation paper.

What amount of the final course grade will come from the written work (minimum one-third for a three-hour course)?

73% of the course grade comes from these written assignments.
