As Senior Vice Provost of Curriculum & Enrollment and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, I seek to convey the importance of and my passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion. In this portfolio, we work deliberately to expand, foster, and celebrate diversity among students, their families, faculty, and staff. We welcome all and understand intersecting identities. We recognize that diversity is about representation, but also about perspective; diversity advances and strengthens our academic community.
I consider it an honor to work actively to create spaces where all feel included and to foster a sense of belonging. The School of Undergraduate Studies created a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in 2017 to work on issues and topics related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, culture, class, ability, religion, and country of origin. We stand for social justice and work to identify ways to ensure that our services and programs are accessible and equitable. We are committed to rejecting all forms of discrimination, marginalization, and hate.
We support and work collaboratively to further the efforts announced in the President’s Strategic Plan; The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost Strategic Plan for Faculty, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity; and The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement’s Plan for an Equitable and Inclusive Campus Strategic Direction 2022–2025. As an educator, researcher, and lifelong learner, I value initiatives that support the well-being of all as stated in our diversity committee mission. This committee’s role is to facilitate an ongoing school-wide dialogue, and it is up to each of us to contribute to this important work.
