Remembering Barbara Harlow

A pioneer in the field of literature and human rights, Barbara Harlow helped make it possible for undergraduate students at UT Austin to study human rights from an interdisciplinary perspective. 2016 Year in Review

From Austin to Ghana and from Brooklyn to Cambodia, BDP students completed 357 Connecting Experiences in 2016, all across the globe. Through hours served in internships, BDP students generated an economic impact of over $775,000. More than 160 students graduated with their BDP certificates and nearly 400 students applied to join the BDPs. View an infographic with more highlights from 2016.

Conflict Resolution & Peace Studies BDP Student Gains Insight into World of Women’s Empowerment

Blake Kappel, completing a BDP in Conflict Resolution & Peace Studies, spent summer 2016 in Beijing as an intern with Starfish Project, a social enterprise working to empower exploited and trafficked women in Asia. Social Entrepreneurship & Non-Profits BDP Student Researches Public Health in Belize

Erinn Wright conducted independent research on the prevalence of diabetes in Belize and the role various for-profit, not-for-profit and governmental entities play in promoting wellbeing. This experience allowed her to see interactions between public health and international development, her area of focus within her Social Entrepreneurship & Non-Profits BDP certificate. Museum Studies BDP Student Explores Relationship Between Curator and Artist

In her internship with Bale Creek Allen Gallery, Brooke Johnson, completing a BDP in Museum Studies as well as majors in Studio Art and Art History, deepened her understanding of the roles of curator and artist. In addition to coordinating art shows, social media and PR for the gallery, Brooke also developed an independent project reflecting on the artist-as-curator in museum spaces. Graduate’s Experience in Social Inequality, Health & Policy BDP Helps Shape Her Future in Medicine

Now pursuing a medical degree at Texas A&M College of Medicine, Nida Virani graduated in December 2013 with a BDP certificate in Social Inequality, Health & Policy focused on Public Health and a B.A. in Psychology. Digital Arts & Media Graduate Reflects on Value of Interdisciplinary Learning in Digital Realm

Carson Taylor graduated in August 2016 with a B.S. in Radio-Television-Film and a BDP certificate in Digital Arts & Media with an emphasis in Game Development.
