How did your BDP experience influence your career path and interests?

The Ethics & Leadership BDP courses, especially the forum seminar, were some of my favorite classes at UT. A retired 3-star marine general taught one course and I learned a lot about military culture and leadership from him.

What do you value most about your BDP experience?

I had the opportunity to conduct research both in the U.S. and during a semester abroad in Spain. I also received a Connecting Experience scholarship to complete an internship at the Texas House of Representatives. Working for State Representative Mike Villarreal taught me a lot about budgeting and government operations, which prepared me for work in the federal government.

In what ways did an interdisciplinary education prepare you for what you are currently doing?

It clarified what I most enjoy doing: developing good policy that helps solve complicated issues by serving my country in civil service. I have been able to combine public policy, international relations, and working alongside the military as a civilian into a rewarding career path.
