Center for Skills & Experience Flags
The Center for the Skills & Experience Flags (CSEF) in the School of Undergraduate Studies provides resources and support for the general education shared by all undergraduates at The University of Texas at Austin. Our goal is to facilitate delivery of the curriculum that helps our students become critical thinkers and informed, broadly educated citizens.
Upcoming Deadlines and Events

Cultural Diversity & Global Cultures Faculty Lunch Series: These six monthly faculty development events focus on the pedagogical challenges that instructors who identify as members of underrepresented groups face when teaching cultural studies to students who are members of majority groups, especially when dealing with charged topics (e.g. privilege). Quantitative Reasoning and Writing Flag Workshop: This one-hour session will focus on how to use writing to teach quantitative reasoning and strategies for grading writing effectively. The lunch and workshop will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, April 7. For additional information, RSVP and visit our events page.
Ethics & Leadership Flag Course Development Awards: Six $5,000 development awards are available for new or converted courses in the College of Natural Sciences. Flag proposals and completed award applications must be submitted by the April 11 deadline. An info session will be offered at 10 a.m. on March 22 in FAC 4. Independent Inquiry Flag Course Development Awards: Eight $3,000 awards are available for new or converted courses carrying the Independent Inquiry Flag. Flag proposals and completed award applications must be submitted by the April 11 deadline. 2017 Writing Flag Contest: The second annual Writing Flag Award honors the best writing produced by UT undergraduates in courses carrying the Writing Flag. For full contest rules, submission guidelines, and other information, please see the contest page.
