Center for Skills & Experience Flags

The Center for the Skills & Experience Flags (CSEF) in the School of Undergraduate Studies provides resources and support for the general education shared by all undergraduates at The University of Texas at Austin. Our goal is to facilitate delivery of the curriculum that helps our students become critical thinkers and informed, broadly educated citizens.

Upcoming Deadlines and Events

The deadline for courses to be flagged for summer and fall 2017 is Dec. 15, 2016. For more information about how the Flag proposal deadlines work, please visit the Flag Deadline Info page.

Cultural Diversity & Global Cultures Faculty Lunch Series: The Center for the Skills and Experience Flags invites instructors of the Global Cultures or Cultural Diversity flags to join us for lunch and a roundtable discussion. This is the first of a series of six monthly faculty development lunch events in the 2016- 2017 school year. Discussion will focus on the pedagogical challenges that instructors who identify as members of underrepresented groups face when teaching cultural studies to students who are members of majority groups, especially when dealing with charged topics (e.g. privilege). For additional information and the link to RSVP to the event, please visit our events page or contact our office.

Writing Instructor Workshop: Effective Strategies for Improving Student Writing: This workshop will cover research-based strategies for improving student writing and learning, including guiding the revision process, setting clear expectation, and designing assignments that promote critical thinking. To attend this workshop, please RSVP by Monday, Oct. 31. For additional information, please visit our events page.

Fall 2016 Independent Inquiry (II) Panels: The Center for the Skills and Experience Flags invites prospective II faculty to join us as a panel of veteran II instructors discuss what it means to teach an II course, including sharing experiences about what has worked in their courses, and interesting assignments and projects. For information on the next Independent Inquiry panel, please visit our events page or contact the CSEF office.
