Petitions

The online petition system will ask you for the following information

  • Semester and year in which you took the course
  • Institution where you took the course
  • Course title and instructor
  • Course number where you took the course
  • UT Austin course equivalency number

You will have the option to upload additional supporting documents.

Transfer credit accepted in any form by the Office of Admissions (directly equivalent to a UT Austin course number, general credit within a field of study, or general elective credit) may be used to satisfy core, flag, or major requirements by substitution if approved by the appropriate academic affairs office. In the case of major and elective requirements, substitutions must be approved by the student’s college or school. In the case of core curriculum and flag requirements, all substitutions must be approved by the School of Undergraduate Studies.

The petitions review process takes up to two weeks. You will be notified of the petition decision through a Secure Academic Note (SAN).

The staff in the Vick Center for Strategic Advising is available to consult with you on any questions about core petitions you or your advisor may have. Make an appointment online.
