How did your BDP experience influence your career path and interests?
My last BDP Connecting Experience was an internship with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) this past summer. It was my first foot in the door and gave me the opportunity to impress my superiors enough for them to offer me the position I currently hold. I am interested in environmental consulting in the long run. I like the idea of mixing science with industry and policy. The TCEQ offers the possibility of horizontal transfers within the agency and the chance to be trained in a variety of areas from air to water to remediation and waste management. I intend to learn as much as I can while I’m here.
In what ways did an interdisciplinary education prepare you for what you are currently doing?
It exposed me to more environmental issues in greater detail. The chemical engineering class I took has been the most useful and relevant for my current work. In it, we discussed regulating agencies and environmental laws that have been passed.
